His deviation to Fashion was immensely inspired by his love for rich raw Cultural heritage, the Arts and his travels. His influence in drawn from the desire to create a brand that is not only culturally conscious but also addresses the transitional nature of modern menswear. A brand that acts as a form of self-expression with an approach on the cultural influence that color Kenya and the Tailoring Craft of the Savile Row known principally for its traditional bespoke tailoring for men. In 2016, Sam contributed to having Genteel listed as ‘Brand to watch for’ by Couture Africa and also drew a collaboration with interior designer, Chris Payne of White Elephant Trading Ltd with an aim of showcasing a unique fusion of the Kenyan and European designs. In the year 2017, some of his pieces were featured in Drum Magazine and also Dressed Sauti Sol, an internationally acknowledged afro-pop band, for the Drum Magazine Cover. His particular objective with Genteel is to grow a sustainable fashion brand using part of the untapped potential of Kenyan labor and resources. His deliberate attempt is to create culturally conscious pieces that inform the movement, categorize and dress a sample of the Kenyan fashion. That also acts as a curator to the Kenyan culture that is currently diminishing due modernization. Sam is on a mission to refine the face of African fashion.
