The Kenya open is a professional men’s golf tournament founded in 1967 on the safari circuit and was upgraded to elite DP World tour status in 2019. This global event has been happening at Muthaiga Golf Club or Karen country club. This year the event was happening at Muthaiga golf club and Genteel was tasked to dress the board of directors Muthaiga golf club and his Excellency the President of the republic and we were thrilled.
Our Brand endorses Kenyan culture with a modern touch and not to toot our own horn but we are proud of what we could bring and the inspiration behind it. Our fabrics had to incorporate what our brand is all about while still showing what the golf tournament is. We chose very intricate and natural patterns to bring our vision and that of our client to life.
The concept for the suiting’s top side derived from a man holding a golf bat and a shield, then his head represents the golf ball hence its proximity to the golf bat on the dotted texture represents the grass field the diamond shape and use of straight line represents stability where the curve connecting the circles represents the trajectory of the golf ball and also the swing of the golf club as well as the choice of line work as an element of motif execution helps maintain the subtleness of the design onto the fabric. The outcome is a motif inspired by the Maasai and this was transferred into a custom print made exclusively by us.
The result was a simple, lush, cultural, modern and yet very detailed and eccentric piece that we are very proud of.
